Our Story Unfolds

From a single late-night realization about chaotic project files to helping businesses across America organize their documentation dreams — here's how we built something that actually matters.

2019

The Accidental Beginning

It started with my own mess, honestly. Three project folders named "Final_FINAL_v2" sitting on my desktop, each containing slightly different versions of the same documentation. I was consulting for a tech startup in Palmdale, and their document chaos made my own look organized.

That's when it clicked — if someone like me, who considers himself reasonably organized, was drowning in documentation mayhem, what were other businesses going through? So I started sketching out ideas for a system that could actually keep project documents where they belong.

The breakthrough moment: Realizing that document management isn't about perfect systems — it's about systems that work even when everything else is falling apart.

Growing Pains and Real Solutions

By 2022, we'd learned the hard way that what works for one company doesn't automatically work for another. Our early clients taught us that flexibility beats perfection every time. A manufacturing company needed completely different document workflows than a marketing agency.

We spent months rebuilding our core system, basically starting from scratch with everything we'd learned. The old version worked, but it was rigid. The new approach? Think of it like a toolbox where each business picks the tools that make sense for their specific situation.

Hard lesson learned: The best documentation system is the one people actually use, not the one with the most features.

Where We Stand Today

These days, we're working with businesses that range from 5-person startups to companies with documentation needs that would make your head spin. What I love most is that we're not just organizing files anymore — we're helping teams communicate better.

When a project manager can find last month's requirements document in 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes, that's not just efficiency. That's getting home for dinner with the family instead of staying late to hunt through folders.

What drives us now: Every business deserves documentation that works as hard as they do, without the complexity that typically comes with "professional solutions."

Meet Kieran Blackwood

"The funny thing about building a documentation company is that you become obsessed with organizing everything — including your thoughts. But what really matters isn't the perfect system; it's building something that works when your client is having their worst day and desperately needs to find that one critical file."

Kieran started tion-app after spending years watching talented teams waste hours every week searching for documents that should have been easy to find. When he's not thinking about folder structures, he's probably planning his next camping trip or trying to convince his neighbors that his backyard vegetable garden isn't getting out of hand.

Looking Ahead

We're planning something interesting for late 2025 — a comprehensive training program that'll teach teams how to build documentation systems that actually stick. Not the kind that work great for two weeks then get abandoned, but systems that become second nature.

Because honestly? The best documentation tool in the world is useless if people don't know how to use it effectively. We want to change that, one team at a time.
